It's a bleak midwinter in Seatoun when Grace is approached by 20 year old Hannah Conti who has always known she was adopted. Finding her natural mother isn't a problem - she's already done it. In fact, that's the problem. Hannah's mum gave birth when she was on remand awaiting trial for murder. But Hannah's convinced that her mother didn't commit the crime and wants Grace to clear her name. Problem is, Hannah's mother says she did do it. And everybody Grace speaks to advises her to forget the whole thing. Then somebody tries to kill Grace. It seems that someone would like to stop her asking questions. And if she doesn't stop, they'll shut her up - for good.
