"Anybody but Annie Page!" Newspaper publisher Nick Kimball needed a society columnist; Annie had the necessary contacts. But he didn't like her any more than he'd liked her late husband, Robert. According to Nick, Annie was a "phony-baloney Lady Bountiful." He offered her the job, convinced she'd turn it down. After all, society snobs didn't work for money.
