Meredith "Red" Wilde is convinced that Michael Wisdom is one of the rudest and most egotistical men she has ever met. She tried, unsuccessfully , to conveince him to send his daughter, Caroline, to her school. However when he assists her with an injured student, she catches a glimpse of his kinder side, and is surprised when Michael and Caroline quickly become a part of her whirlwind family. She doesn't anticipate, or like, the barrage of emotions that accompany his presence either.

Michael Wisdom move to Dayton, WA to escape the memories of his wife and son's deaths. What he doesn't expect is the fiery Red Wilde, the local school teacher who insists unpon befriending and helping his young daughter. Soon Michael finds himself repairing the school and inviting her to his house, actions far removed from his previous marriage.

When the two of them join together in a battle against the school board and later to save Caroline's live, Michael realizes that he has to move past his wife's death and the fear of losing his only daughter. He struggles to move past those hurdles and appreciate the prize awaiting him if he admits his love for Red.
