In 1994, artist Alexis Rockman ventured into the dense jungles of Guyana, the place his journals call "the source, the center" of all he loves. The result is this vibrant, fantastic dreamscape of biological life, where monumental insects - ants, mites, bees, and beetles - vie with anteaters, exotic birds, piranhas, and iguanas. Described by Rockman himself as "zoos in outer space," his world of nature borders on the bizarre and the grotesque, while always based upon intimate observation of the environment.
