Dominic Barr has inherited Melbourne Hall, a title, and a mountain of debt. He realizes he will have to sell the state to avoid a debtor's prison. Although there is no love lost between them, Dominic's neighbor Kate is anxious to help. She recalls the legend of the Danish God, a treasure which was reported to have gone missing when the Danish invaders of King Knut overran Melbourne. If the hoard can be found on Melbourne ground, Dominic will be able to claim the treasure trove and redeem his debts. However, as forces begin to unite against them it becomes a race against time to find the Danish Gold, and secure not only Melbourne's future, but also the happiness of Kate and Dominic.
