Frank and Joe's aunt, Gertrude, lives a quiet life, until her old high school friend, Clayton Silvers, turns up in Bayport. Once a distinguished reporter, he was accused of falsifying articles and being on the take. Now he's back in town to work on his comeback story. Gertrude defends her friend, but the Hardys aren't so sure he's innocent, as they are the ones now being watched.
