A Compound for Death

(1943)
(The first book in the Jim O'Neill series)
A novel by

Egotistical writer and unfaithful husband Tyler Bunnell has disappeared, and his family is rather relieved--until his wife finds his much-needed eyeglasses in a cranny of his writing cabin. Surely he wouldn't have left without them! Soon the state prosecutor's investigator Jim O'Neill finds the body. In addition to Bunnell's wife, his three adult children come under suspicion, but O'Neill thinks there must be another motive. A clever murderer has covered his tracks, and it takes some old-fashioned legwork to find out anything more.
