Gender neutral. Suitable for both a male and female readership. Moderate bad language. Moderate sex scenes. Some violence related to World War Two.

In 2014 The young French teacher Emily Bouchart has unearthed human remains on a quiet French beach. The only clue to the deceased is a gold wedding ring. When school finishes she visits her grandmother's cottage and explains the find. Emily's grandmother tells her a story of long ago, a story of when Allied agents came to her lonely cottage when she was a small girl, during World War Two, and how she heard them recount their tale.

Operation Midnight is a story of heroism, courage and bravery in the face of adversity. This is not a story of hardened soldiers, aerial combat or naval engagements on the high seas, but it is a story of ordinary men and women, ordinary men and women just like you. Ordinary men and women chosen to undertake the most dangerous missions behind enemy lines, where the price of failure is death. It is a story of ordinary men and women recruited by Special Operations Executive, a secret World War Two organization designed by Winston Churchill to set Europe ablaze.

When the BBC asks for French/German speaking volunteers, four young people from Britain, America and Canada bravely answer the call. Once trained, SOE plans to parachute them in to occupied France as two married couples, and bring out one Jewish academic crucial to the war effort. Nothing could be easier: leave England, parachute into occupied France, travel to Paris, link up with the contact, arrange collection from an isolated French beach - and travel back to England.

But like so many military endeavours during the war, the operation soon runs into trouble when they're brutally betrayed by a Nazi collaborator. With their plan in chaos and the dreaded SS and Gestapo on their tail, the Allied agents are forced to make other arrangements. Operation Midnight will show you what true courage really is, as Jack, Elizabeth, Collette and Jonny make the ultimate sacrifice for the things we all cherish; liberty and freedom. These are the quiet, unsung heroes of World War Two: the assassins, the saboteurs and the spies undertaking operations too dangerous for any military unit. These are the men and women with ice-cold blood running through their veins: Churchill's Secret Army.
