An Accident Waiting to Happen

(1989)
A non fiction book by

This book covers the stories of "The Herald of Free Enterprise", the King's Cross fire and the explosion on the Piper Alpha oil platform. It looks at the warnings that were given before anything happened, the sequence of events leading up to each of them and what happened next. The author examines future possible disasters precipitated by overcrowed skies and pilot fatigue; busy shipping lanes; the accumulation of toxic and nuclear wastes and the greenhouse effect, and suggests that certain preventative measures could be taken such as the setting up of a national disaster agency and organization, altering the law so that action can be taken against corporations that are negligent and try to ensure that profit is not invariably put before people's safety and wellbeing.
