One Day More

(1905)
A Book by

Like many other novelists, Conrad was unable to repeat his success as a novelist when he ventured into the theatre. The one-act play "One Day More" received an unsympathetic reception when first staged in 1905; when it appeared in print twice, Clement Shorter,1917 published only 25 copies and by the Beaumont Press,1919, it was in a ltd ed of 250 copies, plus a further 24 printed on Japanese vellum. Conrad's own adaptation of his own novel,"The Secret Agent", was staged at the Ambassadors Theatre in London late in 1922, but was another critical failure. It too appeared in print twice;a 1921, Cambridge, privately printed 69pp for author only and T.Werner Laurie,1923, 185pp printed for subscribers only. "Laughing Anne" apart from this edn was only printed in Bookman Journal,1923;No.4 of the 'Vine Books'.
