About David Marshall Chan
David Marshall Chan is the author of Goblin Fruit: Stories, a 2004 Los Angeles Times Book Prize Finalist. His writing has appeared in such publications as Conjunctions, BOMB Magazine, and Columbia, and he has been awarded writing fellowships from the Corporation of Yaddo and the MacDowell Colony. Writing in the Los Angeles Times Book Review, Rick Moody called Goblin Fruit: Stories "probably the most stunning debut of the year, one that gives much promise of great things to come," and in the New York Review of Books, Joyce Carol Oates wrote: "David Marshall Chan's voice is haunting and original. Goblin Fruit is a fascinating cri de couer by a young writer of promise and substance." The New York Times Book Review described the book's stories as "melancholy fables from a pop-culture California childhood." Professor Chan grew up in Southern California. He holds a B.A. from Yale University and MFA degrees the University of California, Irvine and Syracuse University. He previously worked in New York City in book publishing for many years, and has taught at Syracuse University and the Stonecoast MFA Program at the University of Southern Maine.
