Boulder, CO, reporter Maxey Burnell, whose main squeeze works as an arson investigator for the fire department, ponders the apparently unnoticed, "accidental" death of bag lady Sylvia Wellman. While trying to fill in the blanks of Sylvia's life, Maxey also attempts to identify the victim of a suspicious fire in her own neighborhood. When she probes too near the truth, a so-called relative of the fire victim threatens her and a costumed villain kidnaps her.
