Female psychics from two eras connect in a way that leads to prevention of a present crime and solution of a past one. Anthropologist Annie Darrow searches for Paleo-Indian remains near a Colorado ghost town. Unashamedly using her psychic powers for direction, she unearths what is apparently a Native American skeleton, as well as messages left for her by a psychic who lived in the town in 1881, when a serial murderer killed several prostitutes. The dead psychic warns Annie that someone will attempt to kill her, too. Nifty premise, atmospheric detailing, and uncanny characterization; recommended. Karen Grigsby.

Journalist / sleuth Alex Powell and her friend Paul discover a colleague dead minutes before he was scheduled to accept an award at a national black journalists' conference. Police subsequently enlist Alex's help in finding the murderer: Alex knows the potential suspectsas well as the victim's player mentalityand has crucial entre into black journalism circles. Flip and jaunty, Alex offers an alternative narrative view, sometimes critical, often humorous, and sometimes self-directed but always entertaining. A highly promising series debut.
