When Charlotte Hamilton receives a surprise offer of marriage from the odious, but rich, Lord Frederick Farrell, desperate circumstances force her to accept. It soon becomes apparent, however, that not everyone is as keen as Charlotte for the marriage to take place. Indeed somebody appears to be going to a great deal of trouble to sully her reputation with the Farrells in the obvious hope that they will call off the arrangement.
