Randulf Fitz high is a loyal warrior, and a favourite of Henry I who has been to colonise Wales for his king. Arriving in Wales, he meets the English-speaking Josselyn ap Carreg Du, a Welsh beauty. Randulf hires her to teach him Welsh, but finds himself deeply attracted to and disturbed by her.
