Biggie and the Mangled Mortician

(1997)
(The second book in the Biggie Weatherford series)
A novel by

Lone star state grandmother Biggie Weatherford returns for further comic sleuthing adventures in the second installment of this fresh and funny series narrated by her ten-year-old grandson, J.R. This time around, Biggie hardly has time for detective work. Not only is she directing and starring as Little Buttercup in the town's production of HMS Pinafore, she is also ramrodding the drive to convert the old depot into a museum. But when the town's new undertaker, Monk Carter, is found dead, sprawled on the carpet of his apartment while water from the bathtub spills all over everything, Biggie rises to the challenge. Did Monk Carter die of a heart attack? Biggie's not so sure when Doc Hooper announces, after examining the body, that Monk's ribs have been smashed as if, as J.R. so elegantly puts it, "a giant grizzly bear came along and gave him a big old bear hug." Suspects may be few, but with J.R. at her side, Biggie sets out to solve this messy murder.
