Death On Delivery

(1939)
(Book 26 in the Patrick Aloysius McCarthy series)
A novel by

Detective-Inspector McCarthy of Scotland Yard finds himself once more embroiled in a challenging investigation when a wealthy collector is murdered in his home and his prize possession, the Sicilian Cross, is stolen. Several underworld figures have their eye on the treasure, and it's a dog-eat-dog race in criminal circles to secure the Cross before the police descend. McCarthy and his men have to follow several leads in order to trace the path of the Cross, and the Detective-Inspector engages his usual sleuthing powers as he guides his team in pursuit of the criminals and their ill-gotten trophy. Australian-born writer John G. Brandon (1879-1941) was a prolific author of crime thrillers, many of which featured D.-I. McCarthy. This edition of Death on Delivery includes an introduction by Gavin L. O'Keefe and a preliminary bibliography of Brandon's writings.
