It's hard to be hard-boiled when your biggest fan and worst critic is your 12-year-old daughter, especially when she's cracking your case for you and defending you from the bad guys, along with sidekicks human and feline.

Comedy meets mystery and history in the summer of 1961, when Houston is still a cowboy backwater. P.I. Harry Lark is out to save the city for President Kennedy's moon mission. Dizzy Lark is out to save Harry.

P.I. Harry Lark is running a detective agency out of a seedy downtown office building when a well-dressed stranger involves him in NASA's plans to build a new space center, and pays him handsomely. Later, a local civil rights group hires Harry to clear them in a string of firebombings, and pays him considerably less handsomely. Meanwhile, Dizzy and her pals are running a lost and found out of a suburban garage when they're hired to find a missing father. Retainer: one Enchanted Evening Barbie. As all these cases dovetail, Harry and Dizzy race to untangle them before the city goes up in smoke.

Part hard-boiled detective story, part junior Nancy Drew mystery, all serious fun. Sandra Garland Hardy of ReadMyLips.com says, "It works and it works well," and Jani Brooks of Romance Reviews Today calls Bayou City Burning“a terrific mystery loaded with humor, lots of excitement, and fascinating, well written characters” and rates it “a Perfect 10 book.”
