Bonnie Burnard was born January 15, 1945 at Petrolia, Ontario. She grew up in Southern Ontario but lived for 20 years in western Canada. Her collection, Casino & Other Stories, was shortlisted for the inaugural Giller Prize and won the Saskatchewan Best Book Award. Her first story collection, Women of Influence, won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book.
