| "The graetest comic fertility of any Englishman." Evelyn Waugh |
Oswald Thake is an Eton-educated, eligible bachelor who shares more than a few genes with Bertie Wooster. In his letters home from his travels he describes - without ever fully understanding - his travails at the hands of the many con-artists, floozies and desperate widows who follow him wherever he goes. Thake retains his infectiously sunny naivety throughout these difficulties, even though - unlike Wooster - he has no Jeeves to finesse him out of trouble.
