Living above her stepfather's fish and chip shop on Merseyside's Paradise Parade, Emily Barr is glad to escape to her job in a jewellery factory. When she is promoted to work for young Mr Giles, the owner's son, she is the envy of her friends, and to her surprise he seems to want to woo her.
