The Squires Daughter

(2001)
A novel by

Fliss, the squire's eldest daughter, lives for her family, who depend on her to resolve their problems. But her life changes suddenly when Sir James Singleton invites Fliss and her sister Melissa to visit his aunt in Bath. She meets many new people there, including Alice Tryon, with whom her brother Richard is in love, and Alice's uncle, Lord Nick Bonsor, a notorious rake and Sir James' friend. Fliss begins to see James differently, but just as it seems as if she might have found happiness, her mother dies, and she and Melissa quickly return home. But Melissa's stay in Bath has been eventful too, and her misbehaviour not only compels Fliss to visit London in search of a solution, but also threatens to drive a wedge between Fliss and James.
