At the end of carnival a man experienced something that he knew was the culmination of his life. The problem is that he can only dimly remember what happened. Out on the town with his friends, a masked woman appears and several hours later, gasping horrified he wakes up at the edge of a lake. Three years later he tries to solve the mystery by re-creating the same situation and reliving it. This is despite the warnings of his secret protector, the Sorcerer.
