I have lost count of the number of times I have read this book over the last 35 years. This is a laugh out loud funny crime caper, set in a vibrant Rome and laced with memorable and well developed characters. The book is written in the first person and the plot twists and turns seen through the perceptions and opinions of a small time crook haplessly drawn into a plot to kidnap a baby - "a certain very rich baby". This is a genuinely funny, feel-good read, a delight from start to finish, and one which bears revisiting time and time again.
