Nathacha Appanah is French-Mauritian from a traditional Indian family background (Pathareddy Appanah) and was brought up in Mauritius. In Mauritius she worked on the Le Mauricien and Weekend Scope as a journalist.She came to live in France in 1998. She has become an active writer since.
