The Green Hat

(1924)
A novel by

The book that catapulted author Michael Arlen to fame and fortune in the 1920s, THE GREEN HAT is a tale of the lost generation, those members of postwar fashionable London society. His characters are cynical and disillusioned, with a sharp, biting wit. Although sophisticated, the book is, in the end, a sentimental romance set in London and Paris. Basis for the 1928 cinematic classic and early talkie film A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS directed by Clarence Brown and starring Greta Garbo, John Gilbert, Johnny Mack Brown and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Also filmed in 1934 by Robert Z. Leonard as OUTCAST LADY with Constance Bennett and Herbert Marshall.
