The Man with Three Jaguars

(1961)
(The second book in the Juan Llorca series)
A novel by

Juan Llorca, the member of the Civil Guard with more under his tricorn than his scruffy appearance would suggest, is promoted to the position of sergeant in the tourist town of Alcala. With his usual flair for trouble, he walks straight into a hornets' nest as soon as he gets off the train. He scarcely has time to fall for the young and attractive Helga before her father's cafe is wrecked, and an English playwright is killed in the dark by a black Jaguar - one of three owned by the English millionaire, Murphy. Juan's obstinacy scorches Murphy's plans, and he emerges from the havoc sufficiently unscathed to feed Helga with more ice-cream.
